In short: Hejmoi keeps what you put into your trips so you and the people you share them with can see them. It doesn’t show ads, sell your data or track you across other apps.
What Hejmoi keeps
- Your account: your name and email address, and whether you sign in with Google or with an email and password.
- Your trips: the trips, places, bookings, notes and dates you add, and who made each change.
- Documents you attach to bookings, such as tickets and boarding passes.
- Forwarded emails: when you forward a booking email to your Hejmoi address, Hejmoi keeps its subject, sender, the booking details read from it, and any PDFs attached to it. You can dismiss an email from your inbox at any time, which deletes it and its PDFs.
- Notifications: a token for each phone you allow to receive notifications, and which notifications you’ve switched off.
- Your plan: whether you have Hejmoi Premium and until when. Apple handles the payment; Hejmoi never sees your card details.
Hejmoi doesn’t use your location or read your contacts. When you import from your calendar, the phone reads the calendar and only the events you choose are added to your trip. “Show in my calendar” writes your trip to a Hejmoi calendar on your phone.
Who can see it
Everyone on a trip, the travellers who plan it and the viewers who follow it, sees that trip’s places, bookings, documents and flight status, and the names and email addresses of the others on it. Your forwarded emails and your Hejmoi email address are yours alone until you add a booking to a trip.
Services Hejmoi uses
- Google Firebase stores accounts, trips and documents and runs Hejmoi’s server. Trips and accounts are kept in Australia (Sydney); documents in the United States.
- Anthropic (Claude, an AI model) reads forwarded emails that don’t carry machine-readable booking details, to find the booking in them. Anthropic doesn’t use this to train its models.
- FlightAware is sent flight numbers and dates for live flight status.
- Mapbox draws the maps and finds places you search for. Its map may collect anonymous usage data.
- Resend sends the email inviting someone to your trip, with your name and the trip’s.
- Apple and RevenueCat handle subscriptions. RevenueCat knows your Hejmoi account ID and your purchase history, not your name or email.
Keeping and deleting it
Your trips stay until you delete them. Deleting a booking deletes its documents. To delete your account and everything in it, email hej@hejmoi.com from the address you sign in with and it will be done within 30 days. Trips you share stay with the others on them unless you delete the trip first. Cancelling Premium is done in your Apple ID settings, and deleting your account doesn’t cancel it.
Children
Hejmoi isn’t meant for children under 13, and doesn’t knowingly keep their data.
